Holiday in Yorkshire.

Hello Dear Reader,

I can’t believe we made it. The last time we had a holiday was our honeymoon in 2012. The move and house renovations took up last year and this year’s summer break was spent in the garden.
A break away to glorious north Yorkshire was just what we needed.

An eight hour drive so a stop half way for a double esspresso was the fuel that kept us going.

It’s great to frock up and have someone else do the cooking.

The Oxpasture Hall hotel near Scarborough, is just stunning. A modern boutique hotel, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors with the very essence of hospitality, welcome and service.
The public areas, especially the lounges are warm, cosy and made us feel truly at home. We had a drink here before supper……I loved the fire.

The original part of the hotel is really old and the shutters show how thick the walls are.
Our pooches are safely home with mum, but dogs are welcome here in all areas except the restaurant. This young lady was enjoying her holiday too. Everyone is catered for here. Staff fussed over the families with children, carefully looked after older patrons and genuinely went out of their way to make everybody welcome.
The food was amazing! I don’t say that lightly, remember I will send food back if I think it is not up to scratch. The food here really did live up to the hotel’s award winning standard
Ham hock terrine, pea puree and crispy quail egg.

Smoked salmon and horse radish ice cream.

Pink tender local lamb.

Pork, cooked three ways.

Dessert? Mango ice cream, coconut panna cotta and pina colada sorbet……brilliantly gluten free too.

Dearly Beloved, quite the traditionalist went for sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and ice cream.
How ‘s the holiday so far?
Blinkin’ EPIC!
Eight hour drive to get here but the destination is amazing!
Disclaimer: we are here on a free two night stay courtesy of the Oxpasture Hotel, with dinner, afternoon tea, a luxury suite and of course a full Yorkshire breakfast on both days. We have been asked to honestly review and my opinions here are genuine.
Until then,
Love Froogs x x

  1. Really pleased that you're having a wonderful time here 'Up North'! Just one thing, if you have a passenger airbag fitted, please, please, please don't sit with your feet up on the dashboard. If the airbag activates the force would be lethal, at the very least it could be pelvis shattering, and I won't even mention the worst that could happen.

  2. You had the lemon and your DB had the chocolate- right? 😄 same here….but I always have a taste of the chocolate, too. ( now tell me I'm wrong about the puddings! ) It's sounds as if you're having a wonderful time…..long may it last! Love the socks.

  3. I was just reading a funny thread about Stoptober on a well known money saving forum which goes on to criticize bloggers (you) exhorting people to be frugal then having the audacity to spend some of their hard won cash on actually enjoying themselves………oh the shame of it! Maybe you should just make like Scrooge before his transformation and never do anything fun at all.
Enjoy your break and make the most of it, you both deserve it so much.

  4. Hi - I'm not frugal to die with a coffin full of money. I've saved for this trip, budgeted for it and haven't had a trip since 2012. Also made it clear that my Stoptober was to save for my wood stove and mini break.

  5. Oops….I completely missed that the puddings are coconut and sticky toffee, not lemon and chocolate!
Actually can't remember seeing the captions, first time I looked. Or maybe I just didn't look properly!

  6. The pictures are enough of a review - you've sold it to me already!!! I would love that holiday; beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of the country. It's our silver anniversary next year and if we can scrape the funds together this would be perfect for us. Have a fabulous time - you both deserve it! x

  7. Looks fabulous froogs, you show such generosity with sharing your knowledge and skills, I am glad that the karma fairy is giving you a treat in return. Very well deserved and you enjoy every last minute.

  8. Takes me back to my days as a travel writer, scribbling away, photographing the food - much to the bemusement of other diners - and hissing at my dining companion under my breath that they couldn't start until I'd taken pics for the review! I never did get to the Oxpasture though, and from your description, more's the pity that I didn't. Enjoy your stay up here in Yorkshire. x
