Frugal Spa Treatments

Hello Dear Reader,

I would rather poke my own eyes out with a plastic spoon that set foot in a spa! However, age is catching up with me and now, I just try 1. Not to smell 2. To keep my backside and knockers from escaping 3. Not to look rough.

In the process of not looking rough I try to look after my skin. I once went to the Clinique counter in Dingles, had all the free advice, got the poor one foot thick make up wearing girl to tell me all the beauty secrets and try all sorts of lovely stuff on me, and then I left and went and bought something that did the job in Poundland and Boots. She basically told me to exfoliate, cleanse and use a good anti-wrinkle moisturiser with sun screen. I think she wanted a few hundred pounds and I got the lot for just over a fiver.

Here is my complete array of beauty products. That’s it. The lot! Hopefully, I don’t smell and I don’t look rough. The escaping wobbly bits are encased in sturdy undies and I make sure I exercise. I wash my hair in Value shampoo, I use Value hand wash as shower gel (or what ever hand wash I’ve got); the St. Ives scrub can be found in Poundland and Boots cold cream is £2.42 and I get through a couple of pots a year. I use a well rated moisturiser from Aldi (it’s won awards, if that counts for anything?) and I use which ever deodorant is on offer. I use a whitening toothpaste, again, I buy which ever is on off. I buy perfume for £3.99 for Lidl (well actually I stocked up when it was on offer for £1.99)
Froogs, scrubbing like a good’n!

Now, apologies for looking a total tw*t but I was running in and out of the bathroom telling Dearly Beloved to quickly grab my camera and take some photos of my beauty regime. I don’t wash my hair too often, or it gets really tangly so it’s a twice a week job. Today is one of those days. On the days that I wash my hair……….you can see I really give a hoot about all this beauty malarky. I deep cleanse. I use the scrub and then rinse with cold water until it is completely gone. I then massage in cold cream, keep massaging for about a minute and then remove it with a warm damp flannel.

Slap it on Froogs!

Normally, it’s just soap and water, a scrub round with an air dried flannel and a bit of moisturiser. This is just to prove that I do make the effort! Spa? That’s where tea bags come from when every where else is shut!

Here’s the end result, hopefully, I don’t look rough…………no? Job done!

Scrubbed and moisturised, no make up, nothing but the Froogs

Until later,

Love Froogs

  1. Hi Sarah, as you can see in that photo - no. I wear mascara and eyeliner in the week to work, mainly just mascara. It's only recently that I do anything at all, for years I just washed with soap, didn't need deodorant and never used any moisturiser until I was about 40.

  2. ello froogs nope you don't look like a chewed toffee (I hear from my father a reliable source sainsbury basics are fab big bag under 30p) like you 9p shampoo about 4x's for me as i get very lank greasy hair too fine doncha know! and occasionally if i cant be arsed a face pack. I have nade family wipes for loo roll(my personal use) as i almost died at the cost of loo roll so have switched to kitchen towel and proper t roll fro when we have visitors! lol. Iam in the throws of making mamma pads for mother nature(she a right pain in the proverbial). I crochet dusters and dish clothes out of cheep cotton yarn and when there's a hole unrip and make a new one. My neighbour thinks im potty and said !Rach yer so tight you bum plays a tune when you walk.,but by doing this I have pennies saved for a day out if I want. Returning to the beauty regime, nanny used only fair soap and oil of ulay and had some of the best skin i have ever seen on any woman the women of her generation did. good fun post thanks for sharing

  3. You look just great. I totally agree -it's all sales gimmick and fancy (and unnecessary)
packaging. I buy a big phial of pure lavender oil and add drops to almond oil in a glass roll-on bottle. It works out very economically, my last bottle lasted me several years. Smells lovely and is great for headaches, lifting the spirits and dabbed on an old pillow caser for a good night's sleep!

  4. Your look fabulous, I love the fresh scrubbed look.

I don't even wear make-up to work. A bit of moisturiser is all I wear on work days.

I haven't found anyone who thinks I would do my job better if I was wearing make-up!

  6. Froogs, you look fabulous!! I don't wear makeup due to alergies, and I quit colouring my hair this year. It has gone a lovely shade of silver.I like being “low maintenance”. It is frugal and much more healthy.

  8. You can even have it cheaper if you make some of your beauty products yourself ! Face scrubing : 1 teaspoon of ground almonds, mixed with a teaspoon of organic cold pressed olive oil and a teaspoon of honey. If you want it softer you can add a little yogurt. Cheap face mask : avocado, yoghurt (I make my own) and camomile water (home made and home grown) - I basically play around with what I have in my fridge and what grows in my garden. I guess if you google simple homemade face scrubs or beauty products, you could come up with lots of tips.

  9. Hi Carole, I'm sure you mean well and if you buy all those products, then of course, it's cheaper to make it yourself. However, buying a pack of ground almonds, a bottle of olive oil, a jar of honey, a pot of yoghurt, an advocado and camomile (i don't grow it) is a lot more expensive than Poundland - if you read my blog, you'll know, that for a hundred reasons, I can't afford much. That said, I appreciate the advice. xx

  10. You look wonderful! I rarely wear makeup now that I'm retired, and I do try to take care of my skin now, something that regrettably, I didn't do when I was younger. I like the St. Ives scrubs too.

  13. You look so fresh and brand new Froogs!

I hardly wear makeup and my skin routine is non existent. I do moisturise with olive oil at night time and that makes my skin feel nice and soft…I use sorbolene cream for my moisturiser during the day 🙂

  14. hello, new poster here.
My dance tutor swears by only using olive oil for everything - make up removal, cleansing, the lot. It has to be said, she has lovely skin.
