Hello Dear Reader,
Today I had a catch up day with my son. We’re all so busy. We took ourselves for a walk and then he took me to lunch.
We went to Polridmouth cove and set off to walk up to the Gribben Day marker.
We got there early, were the first in the car park and had the cove to ourselves. If you google Polridmouth, you can rent the cottage on the beach………….although it’s £1800 a week in the school holidays. It sleeps eight. It’s the only house on the beach and utterly stunning. In my childhood the Rashleigh estate was inhabited by locals who rented from them. Now, the houses turn a very nice quid for who ever owns them.
We set off from the beach and headed away from the beach and up to Gribben point. It truly is one of my most favourite places on earth.
Always time for a quick selfie! Sorry about grimacing as the sun was in my eyes.
Zooming in and heading up the hill. It’s steeper than it looks.
Zoom out to show where I was on the hike.
At the top, if you look left and zoom in you can see Polruan, you can’t see Fowey as it’s round the corner. You are actually looking at the mouth of the River Fowey.
Looking up at the day marker.
The other side of the day marker and looking straight opposite at the cliffs above Par.
Here’s Par and the hills in the back ground are ‘spoils’ from the clay mining which doesn’t happen much any more.
Me, enjoying a spot of sun snoozing.
My favourite shoes, my hiking books and my favourite accessory of a bit of mud on them. I’m always happiest when I have these on my feet.
And, lovely son took me to Sam’s on the beach. I’m old, I remember Sam, just a teenager or just out of college, renting a cafe in Fowey and year after year turning it into a better restaurant than it was the year before. The ‘Sam’s on the Beach’ is on the beach at Polkerris and has a fantastic reputation. Years ago, I used to live near by and used to go to ‘Sam’s’ when he had only one restaurant in Fowey. The view from the restaurant is straight over the beach at Polkerris. Everything is local, season and not too expensive as long as you don’t drink alcohol. We managed to sneak in without booking but I would advise that you go online and book here if you too have a son who wants to treat his mum once in a while. Where next then sonny boy? Nathan Outlaw’s new place in Port Isaac?
Here’s my utterly amazing lunch. Everything’s Cornish even the chorizo and sun dried tomatoes. Mussels are my favourite food and something I would never cook at home. (Fiddling with beards cleaning them!) When I was a teen, I worked in the Lifeboat cafe, serving ice cream and waitressing and then, when son was a teen, he too worked in the Lifeboat cafe (as it was for years before Sam took it over) so it was lovely to be nostalgic about finishing work and diving straight in the sea.
Here’s all there was left.
We had a great day and even managed a trip to see my mum and dad/granny and grandad too. He’s 29 this year………………where did the time go?
Over to you, anyone else been to Polkerris? Polridmouth? Fowey? Share your memories.
Until tomorrow,
Love Froogs xxxxx
